More about SSLA

The Academy of Dentistry International (ADI) supports the ADI Student Servant Leadership Award (SSLA), which honors a senior dental student at a US Academic institution who has made a significant impact throughout their dental school tenure. To be included in this award, the Deans of dental schools are invited to participate. Upon the school's willingness to participate, a timely reminder is sent to the school's administrator, seeking the annual nomination for the ADI SSLA award.

This award recognizes a dental student in good academic standing selected by a participating U.S. dental school administrator or faculty member who has demonstrated significant service and leadership. The awardee is presented with a plaque at the dental school's Student Award Ceremony and receives a complimentary registration for the following ADI Convocation.

The eligibility criteria for the award are as follows:

  • A 4th-year dental student in good standing in their class
  • Demonstration of outstanding compassion for serving patients through patient care and patient education
  • At least two global oral health trips internationally or two service learning local global oral health/free clinics in the USA, or a combination of the two
  • Demonstrations of leadership characteristics
  • Community service learning throughout dental school training

The ADI Chair of SSLA asks that the priority for the award be presented to the nominee by an ADI section regent, an ADI national/international leader, or an ADI current fellow. To complete this process, the ADI SSLA administrator requires an image of the student receiving the ADI-SSLA award at the awards ceremony, along with a brief statement from the institution about the nominee.
